Bob finished a big kitchen job this past week, so, to celebrate we left town! We decided to go check out central Oregon. We traveled to Bend and Sunriver. We'd heard so much about it, that we thought we'd go and see for ourselves if it was everything everyone had told us it was. We weren't disappointed! We had a very good time. It was wonderful!

Sunriver is a resort located on the Deschutes River. We rented some bikes and rode all around the resort. There are paved bike paths for miles. The weather was beautiful, in the upper 80's. When we tired of the paved paths, we headed out into the woods on some bike trails. It smelled so fresh and good, it was so quiet, just the two of us, no one else around!

We decided we'd never spent time like this on a vacation just enjoying the outdoors. We surprised ourselves with the things we were able to do! We're not as old and out of shape as we thought we were! That first day, we rode our bikes from 10 in the morning, until almost 5 in the afternoon. We were sorry we'd never tried anything like this before. The only thing is, it's still a little hard to sit! Next time we need bikes with a little more padding on the seats!

Day two we spent hiking up to Bendham Falls. We hiked for a couple of hours. I was expecting falls like Snoqualmie, but they weren't quite as impressive! Still, it was great being outdoors and the scenery was georgeous.

Last, but not least, we rented a canoe and went floating down the river for about 3 hours. Again, we'd never done anything like this before. After figuring out how to paddle and keep the canoe going straight, this was my most favorite thing of all. Talk about quiet and serene.

Heavenly Father has created so many beautiful places in this world. We are glad we took the time to do something different and enjoy one of them this week. We know that we'll be doing this more often. Not only is it good for our physical health, it is good for our mental health. There is no place better to go and clear your head than the quiet, peaceful outdoors.

Wow, that looked like it was so fun.... and beautiful! I know that I am going to look back and wish we did more things like that. 4 years to go till we are on our own again.
Hey, that looks like fun! You are really living up this retirement stuff! Great pictures too!
Fun Mom! A family reunion there sounds like the perfect spot!
How fun!!! That place looks beautiful.
Didnt I tell you to wear life jackets???
Hi Sue and Bob! Good for you two for getting out into the wild.. I am pretty jealous! So Sue to answer your question about the Alder Family. One of Ben's girl cousins Faeth married Scott Alder. I am not 100% percent sure if their whole family is LDS, but I do know that Scott served a mission. I have never met him, but when I do, I'll grill him for some family info! Take care...and I am happy you have a blog that I can checkout!
